A Message From Our DirectorAs parents of young children, one of your main concerns is most likely where and at what age your child should begin school. The nursery school years are formative ones that will set the foundation for your child’s future learning experiences. Scientific research has shown that when we feel safe and accepted, it significantly enhances our ability to learn. It is our greatest intention at InterCommunity Nursery School to create a learning environment wherein your children can become confident learners, and feel like they are part of an extended family.
As a cooperative nursery school, working together with InterCommunity families, our well-trained teachers and staff strive to create a community of learners, whose shared objectives are to provide dynamic learning opportunities and new experiences that will engender curiosity and a life long love of learning. Our early childhood teachers are superbly trained to offer stimulating lessons through purposeful play. Our program provides the chance for children with all learning styles and needs to become self directed learners who find joy in the learning experience. We offer all types of learners the opportunity to flourish not only in an academic capacity, but in social, emotional and creative areas, as well. Our goal at ICNS is to guide your child through a program that is balanced with play, socialization, creativity, and age-appropriate learning, while allowing each child to develop a curiosity of their world, and a love of school. At our school students will experience: • Hands on learning and development of problem solving skills through exploration • Literacy & language growth opportunities, self expression and cultural awareness • Early math and pre-reading skills, appropriate to pre-school • Positive reinforcement through honest recognition and praise • Encouragement to develop independence, self-discipline and respect • Daily opportunities for fine and gross motor skill development through multi- disciplinary learning centers and outdoor play on our beautiful and unique playground • Nurturing guidance to develop as an individual Another benefit of ICNS, is the cooperative nature in which our school operates. You will participate in our classrooms and engage in and enhance your child’s learning experiences. As parents you know your children better than anyone and you are their greatest advocates. Together we can build a relationship that offers the best support system for your child to grow and thrive. To visit our school, please call the office at (516) 593-3443 and we will arrange an appointment during school hours so that you can see us in action. We look forward to meeting you and your child and hope to have the opportunity to share our love of teaching with you both. Karen Grimes Education Director/Teacher |
